Examples: human sundials, murals, paving slabs, planters, benches, columns. For more info see: project ideas and portfolio

Each project is individually proposed in writing and so may vary depending on its location, theme, size, participants, etc but is generally run in the following way.

For wall murals columns and Crucifix's only.

  • The school, community group comes up with a wish list of themes and ideas that they want included in the finished piece and create as many sketches as possible.
  • Design workshop consists of myself and a number of individuals to take these first sketches and turn them into the finished design.
  • Mosaic workshop, I then work with the participants allowing them to create a section that is suitable for their age or ability.
  • Grout workshop I work with a small group to grout, wash and finally polish the piece.

For floor murals and Human Sundials only.

  • Prior to any workshops the school, community group, etc comes up with a wish list of themes and ideas that they want included in the finished piece and each individual designs their own paving slabs of which some or all the designs get chosen.
  • Mosaic workshop, I then work with the participants allowing them to create a slab that is suitable for their age or ability.
  • Grout workshop I work with a small group to grout, wash and finally polish the slabs.

Materials include:

  • Tiles, swimming pool tiles which are suitable for outside, slightly thicker then normal tiles and come in a wide range or colours. Suitable for skin tones and school jumper colours.
  • Marine ply, using 18mm marine ply to BS1088 suitable for outside and inside.
  • Concrete paving slabs, in a variety of sizes and shapes
  • Tile adhesive (cement) and grout, both external grade and usually grey in colour.
  • Ceramic Chimney Pot or Drain Pipe. The same as you find in any DIY store or builders merchant.

Installation carried out by the school, community group:

  • Wall Murals and signs. As these are onto ply gaps are left in the murals allowing a screwed to be driven through the grout, ply and in to the wall.
  • Floor murals, as these are onto concrete paving slabs these are laid as normal slabs.
  • Columns, A small foundation is placed into the ground with a number of steel rods sticking out, the finished piece is placed over the rods and then filled with concrete.
  • Human sundial, as these are onto concrete paving slabs these are laid as normal slabs.
  • Cross and Crucifix, As these are onto ply gaps are left in the murals allowing a screwed to be driven through the grout, ply and in to the wall.
  • Seating. Generally these are mosaiced insitu with the seating construction carried out prior to my workshops.
