There are many definitions for a MOSAIC, however I like to describe it as a piece of art generally created using small pieces of tiles, stones, glass, etc placed together to create an image. An alternative version would be one supplied early on in my work by a little girl as,

"Mosaics are like doing a jigsaw puzzle but there are no wrong pieces."

Maybe not the most accurate but still very true from a child's view.

BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR MODERN MOSAICS
A great website for all things mosaicing including the history e.g. mosaics, upcoming events, and a school mosaic competition held each year.

SOCEITY OF AMERICAN MOSAIC ARTISTS
The American version of BAMM

MOSAIC ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND
The Austrailain and New Zealand version of BAMM

MOSAIC MATTERS
An online mosaic magazine.

LEARNING THROUGH LANDSCAPES
Helps schools, childrens centres develp their outdoor spaces

EDKINS FAMILY
Created by the Edkins family with a wide range of pages especially useful for schools including an interactive mosaic page.

MICRO MOSAICS
These are amazing mosaics as the pieces are so small they look like brush strokes.

CLEO MUSSI
An amazing mosaic artist who uses broken crockery to create beautiful pieces of artwork

NIKI DE SAINT PHALLE
The Tarot Garden consists of a number of sculptures and a house all covered in mosaics.

ANTONI GAUDI
There are a number of Gaudi websites but this seemed the best

NEK CHARD FOUNDATION
An amazing garden in India created by Nek Chard using recycled objects he found on his way home. From these he was able to create a series of amazing mosaics!!!!!

MEGA MOSAIC MAKERS
A yearly school competition for schools to enter their own mosaic projects.
