Project Ideas

Mirror mosaics
Mosaic Madness - Mosaic workshops for schools, communities and corporate training - Bristol, UK

Group mosaic projects come in many shapes and sizes, the following are just some ideas to get you started!
Please call me with any questions or ideas.

Murals

These can be in many different themes and sizes and be inside or outside, and the design would be part of the project.

Signs

These can be any size, and be for inside or outside. I often work with schools to create a mosaic version of their school name and logo as an external entrance sign.

Mirror Murals

These consist of creating small mosaic mirrors or letters, usually one per child/adult, which are then placed together to create a large mirror. An advantage of this type of project in a school is that I can work with up to around 200 children in a day, working with a class at a time.

Paving Slabs

Using pre-cast concrete slabs which when mosaiced can be placed within or alongside a path, within a garden, etc.

Seats and Benches

Using a concrete breeze block construction which is then mosaiced and wooden seating added. Please go to (insert page link) for more detail and examples.

Human Sundials

This type of sundial is built using mosaiced paving slabs placed in the ground in a semicircle with the shadow of a child or adult standing in the middle falling onto the slabs to tell the time. Please go to (insert page link) for more detail and examples.

Compass Point

Similar to a human sundial but using a circular slab and a ring of eight slabs placed around it. You can then use this to plot shadows, their direction and movement, but not actually tell the time.

Recycled Chimney Pots

Used to create a piece of mosaic sculpture up to 1.8m high which can be placed outside.

Gift Items - Picture Frames

Children of any age (or adults!) can also create a 6x4’ mosaic picture frame using foam tiles. In previous projects digital photos of the children have been placed with in each frame.

Usually run within schools as an after school workshop for the teachers using a range of different coloured glass mosaic tiles.

Designing the Mosaic

Initial Meeting
Depending on the nature of the project a design for the mosaic piece can be put together very quickly based on a meeting, such as mosaicing a school or group logo and name.

Design Session
You may wish to have a project where there are number of design sessions leading to the creation of the mosaic. The advantage of these is that I can guide the group and give them advice on how suitable an image is mosaic.
